  • Improving Nurse Communication in Transgender Patients with Cancer
    • Simulation can play a crucial role in training health care providers to offer sensitive and inclusive care to LGBTQ+ individuals. Simulated scenarios can cover topics such as gender identity, sexual orientation, and health care disparities, enabling providers to develop the skills necessary to create a welcoming and affirming environments for all patients. This session will discuss the development of an educational initiative to improve nurse communication with transgender patients.

  • Workplace Conflict Management Program: Preventing Workplace Violence
    • This presentation is a case study of a Workplace Conflict Management Program and ED boarding reduction efforts implemented in 2023 with the goal to change the culture of care and reduce workplace violence events in a large mid-west academic medical center. The metrics of success for this program included eliminating prone restraints, reducing the incidence and duration of behavioral restraints, reducing frequency and duration of seclusion, and reducing injuries related to behavioral emergencies.
