The evolution of nursing leadership necessitates disruption. In a medical center, the role of the nurse scientist (NS) was re-imagined beyond infrastructure and inquiry. The NS introduced a program to meet the diverse needs of nurse leaders at all levels. Through this innovation, nursing research studies tripled in two years, external dissemination of nursing research and evidence-based practice projects doubled, and meaningful recognition from professional societies increased 10-fold.
